In honor of National School Psychology Week (NSPW), designated by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) from November 11–15, 2024, we join schools across the country to highlight the crucial role of school psychologists in promoting student success under this year’s theme, "Spark Discovery."
School psychologists collaborate with families, educators, administrators, and other professionals to cultivate safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that build stronger ties among home, school, and community. Through their expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, school psychologists help students thrive academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally and play a vital role in school safety and crisis teams.
Each day of NSPW is an opportunity to celebrate, learn, and engage:
Monday: Explore Your Connections – Reach out to allies and resources that highlight the positive impact of school psychologists in your community. Connect with your state’s school psychology association, district leadership, and other networks to amplify your NSPW efforts.
Tuesday: Pursue New Ideas – Explore ways to align school psychology practices with the NASP Practice Model, discovering untapped areas where school psychologists can further support students and staff.
Wednesday: Launch Into Advocacy – Advocate for necessary changes and raise awareness about the critical shortage of school psychologists. Consider writing to representatives, engaging with your local school board, or joining NASP’s Capitol Hill Day.
Thursday: Boost Your Strengths – Share knowledge, perspectives, and resources. Use NASP-provided handouts and the Exposure Project to promote diversity in the field while reinforcing individual strengths.
Friday: Expand Your Universe – Reflect on the week’s celebrations and consider ways to recognize the work of school psychologists year-round, supporting their mission to help students thrive in school, at home, and throughout life.
At BPS, we’re grateful for our school psychologists who spark discovery daily, helping students, families, and communities thrive. For additional NASP resources on NSPW, visit NASP's website, and check out NSPW graphics here.
